A Period 9th Grade Homework Due 2/1

For Wednesday, please read the first five vignettes in The House on Mango Street. These are on pages 3-13. Please select one image from each vignette to share in class on Wednesday. For example, from the first vignette, I might select “Our house would be white with trees around it, a great big yard and grass growing without a fence” because I think this image embodies part of the American Dream. On Wednesday, we’ll discuss these images and then discuss metaphors and similes.

Today we also covered the reader/author spectrum:

Real reader

Authorial reader

Narrator

Authorial author

Real author

Don’t worry if this is still a little confusing. We’ll go over it again on Wednesday if anyone needs me to clarify anything.

Also – if you missed class last Thursday and didn’t take notes for today, make sure that you hand in the in-class assignment from today on Wednesday. This consisted of a full written page, single-spaced, answering two prompts:

Who is Sandra Cisneros? What is she like as a person?

What do you expect from this book? What do you think it will be like?
